A volunteer group in the South Lakes will host a community clean-up along the River Kent later this month.

The Clean River Kent Campaign will hold the litter-picking event as part of World Clean Up Day, inviting people to help them clean up the river.

The campaign group was established in 2021, made up of communities living along the River Kent including members from Staveley, Burneside, Kendal, Sizergh, and Levens.

Clean River Kent Campaign said: “Our aim is to make the river clean for water-based recreation and nature.

“There’s something special about knowing you’ve helped nature. We’d like people to join us for the River Kent Clean Up and experience that feel-good buzz for yourself.”

Working in collaboration with Lakeland Canoe Club, the event welcomes kayakers, canoeists, and walkers to clean up litter both in the river and along its banks.

Anyone taking part will meet at The Pavillion in Staveley at 10am to collect bags and litter pickers, before setting off along the river.

The Clean Up team will finish at Millennium Green in Burneside to bag up the litter and enjoy some well-earned refreshments.
