A community charity tackling food waste in the South Lakes has secured funding for the next five years.

Fed Up! In Grange-over-Sands received the five-year salary grant from the National Lottery Fund to support their work in the community.

Formerly known as Grange-over-Sands Community Foodshare, the organisation began in 2019 with a small group of volunteers serving hot meals, and has since grown to a charity that supports more than 1,000 people each year.

A spokesperson from Fed Up! said: “We are a community-led charity, dedicated to ensuring that no one in the South Lakes goes hungry, feels isolated, or struggles alone.

“This award provides Fed Up! with guaranteed longevity and sustainability, enabling us to continue serving our community while developing both our community café and community garden.”

The charity, based on Main Street in Grange announced its rebranding in August, choosing a name that reflects the group’s ‘roots and determination’.

“We are Fed Up! with poverty, Fed Up! with food waste, and Fed Up! with people having to face challenges alone, said the team.  “This change captures our commitment to turning frustration into positive action, uniting people to build a stronger and fairer community.”

Fed Up runs twice-weekly Foodclubs, providing access to affordable groceries by redistributing surplus food that would otherwise go to waste.

The community charity also provides support for families, children’s activities, English language lessons, peer groups for refugees, community meals and gardening projects.
