A youth production will celebrate 35 years of performances in the South Lakes this December.
The Grange Youth Pantomime will take place for one weekend only, from Friday, December 5 to Sunday, December 7, celebrating the 35th year of the town’s young people taking to the stage at The Victoria Hall.
This year’s production will see a cast of 24 talented young performers, all under the age of 18, telling the story of the Snow Queen, adapted from the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale.
Director Ann Heap said: "This is a magical story with a strong message about friendship and courage. It is a joy to work with such a committed and creative cast."
The show is presented by Grange Musical Theatre Society (GMTS), drawing young actors from Grange, Allithwaite, Cartmel, Lindale, Flookburgh, Kendal and Bowness to take part.
Grange Youth Panto’s choreographer Kathryn Bromley said: "The Snow Queen is packed with humour, music and just the right amount of winter mischief. Families are going to love it."
The story follows Gerda, a brave young girl, as she sets off on a journey to rescue her best friend Kai who has been spirited away by the Snow Queen. Along the way, she encounters trolls, reindeer, talking flowers and plenty of panto chaos.
Alice Evans, 14, who will play Gerda said: “I love playing Gerda because she never gives up. It’s really fun getting to work with everyone and learn all the songs.”
Audiences can expect original songs, colourful costumes, and a heartwarming message about friendship and courage, as well as a hefty dose of audience participation and a few surprises for good measure.
