Kendal’s Town Mayor took in a private viewing of a new exhibition at the Brewery Arts that is now running until November.
Councillor Richard Sutton, the Mayor of Kendal, was at the town’s Brewery Arts Centre on September 18 for a special viewing of the new ‘Wool is my Bread’ exhibition by the artist Trevor Batchelor.
The new free exhibition is currently on show in the centre’s Sugar Store and Foyer Galleries.
It will be running until November 1 and is described as a “visual documentation” of a 15-year period in Kendal.
Although the exhibition’s name is Kendal’s own motto - Pannus Mihi Panis translates as Wool is my Bread – the artist behind it, Trevor Batchelor, likes the term because of a slightly deeper meaning.
‘Woolly’ is something that he believes the content of his artwork can appear as to onlookers at first.
However, he said: “This woolliness feeds my appetite to create. My creations satisfy this appetite, and so, in many respects, these have become my bread.”
Alongside the artist himself and the mayor, the special viewing’s guest list also included the likes of the Brewery Arts’ CEO and Artistic Director, Miriam Randall, as well as Helena McGregor, the centre’s Learning and Engagement Officer.
