A community police officer had a wet and windy introduction to her new patch this weekend as yellow weather warnings swept the region.
PCSO Hayley Newman took to the streets of Kendal amidst the heavy rain and high winds of Storm Amy to introduce herself to business owners and residents.
Part of the Cumbria Police Neighbourhood Policing Team, PCSO Newman’s new patch covers Kendal, Burneside and Endmoor.
PCSO Newman said: “The weather has been pretty miserable, but it hasn't dampened my spirit. I have been finding my feet (albeit wet ones) on my new patch. I have introduced myself to as many businesses I could swim to in Kendal Town Centre. I have given people directions, and probably sent them the wrong way, given myself a sore throat and each business owner a burning ear no doubt, because I talk a lot.
“Offered home security advice, CCTV advice, bike marking plugs, comforted a person in distress, checked out a suspicious activity, offered reassurance, patted a dog, gathered intel, collected images of shop lifters, given advice regarding bike safety to the riders and spoke to them about their responsibility for the safety of pedestrians, smiled a lot, patted more dogs, and got soaked to the skin twice. If I haven't got round to saying hello to you yet, you have probably had a lucky escape!”
