A MAN has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted a female police officer after he was caught stealing goods.

Sam Simmonite, of Kendal, has been charged with attempted theft, assault by beating of an emergency worker, resisting arrest, common assault and being found on an enclosed premises.

The 47-year-old was arrested on October 11 (Saturday) and was charged with the offences yesterday.

He is due to give his indication of plea to the offences at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court today.
