Staff at hotels around the Lake District are in training for a cocktail-making competition due to be held next month.

The final of the Cocktail Competition, organised by the Lake District Hotels Association (LDHA) and LWC Drinks, will take place at Merewood Hotel in Windermere on Wednesday, November 26.

Hotel staff across the region have been taking part in training sessions, learning new skills and building their knowledge of spirits, aiming to improve the hospitality experience for every visitor arriving in the Lake District.

The LDHA’s Tracey Cragg said: “This has been both a light-hearted and enjoyable experience for everyone involved, but also a serious raising of standards so that visitors to the Lakes will continue to be served the best cocktails by knowledgeable staff. We are very grateful to LWC Drinks, who have given their time and expertise in helping the training sessions go well.”

The first training session was held at Rothay Garden Hotel in Grasmere with 18 hotel staff attending from 14 venues around the Lakes, offering an expert introduction to cocktails, learning about service standards and consistency, presentation, engagement of the consumer, and value enhancement.

The next event will be a half-day session at the Lindeth Fell Hotel in Bowness, giving staff a more in-depth dive into cocktails for anyone who aspires to enter the cocktail competition.

The LDHA represents some of Cumbria’s leading hotels, attractions and independent businesses, aiming to show visitors the best of the Lake District.
