NIGHT-time closures of the A590 for four weeks to allow maintenance work to take place begins this weekend.

The road from Newby Bridge to Meathop roundabout will be closed from November 9 – December 5 between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing and vegetation works.

The diversion will take drivers to Windermere and back onto the A590 at Brettargh Holt roundabout.

A National Highways spokesman said: “We advise you to plan ahead and allow extra time to complete journeys.

“We’re keeping disruption to a minimum by working at night when traffic levels are lower. However, due to the nature of our work it will generate some noise.

“We’d like to apologise in advance for any disturbance this may cause you.”

The planned closure continues work on the A590 that started in September, including resurfacing eastbound and westbound lanes, replacing road markings and traffic sensors, and cleaning the drainage.
