Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC give Ambleside tough day at the office

Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC travelled to Galava Park on Saturday, November 29 and came away with an 8-39 victory.

The visitors arrived with a 'young and enthusiastic' squad and showed real quality throughout the match.

They managed to run in six tries, with Will Baines crossing for some impressive finishes and their attack well led by Stu Storey.

The Centurions had their own moments of magic, with Greg Tebbutt pouncing to score a well-earned try before Cameron Penn kicked a 35m penalty from a tight angle.

But fresh legs for Kirkby Lonsdale ensured it was a strong end to the contest for them, as three quick tries in the closing stages extended their lead.

Speaking after the match, Director of Rugby at Ambleside, Andrew Brown, said: "All in all, it was a brilliant day for rugby at Ambleside Rugby Club.

"A big thank you to Kirkby Lonsdale for the game and to the Ambleside boys for putting on a show.

"The result still leaves Ambleside Centurions in the top half of the league in seventh place, something no one in the county would have predicted at the start of the season."

Several Centurions were said to have stood out across the park, including Archie Carr, Tadgh Butler, Tom Allday, who were commended for putting in 'outstanding shifts'.

Coach Matty Kaye praised his side for matching the physicality of their opponents and for enjoying some 'strong phases of rugby' throughout.

Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC, meanwhile, branded it as a 'cracking' day and result, despite the weather conditions doing their best to detract from the entertainment.

Next week, the Centurions Ambleside can look forward to a warm welcome on the west coast as they travel to Millom, whilst Kirkby Lonsdale will prepare to host Workington.
