A community charity tackling food waste in the South Lakes is set to host a Santa’s Grotto this week.
Grange Fed Up, formerly the Grange-over-Sands Community Foodshare, will hold its Santa’s Grotto event – now in its sixth year - from December 18-20.
The grotto will be held at the Community Foodstore on Main Street from 2pm-6pm with a Pay What You Can entry donation.
A Grange Fed Up spokesman said: “He's back! For the sixth year running, Santa will be dropping by to check in on our planet-saving shenanigans. Come and meet Santa and his elves, choose a book and a gift, and take home a delicious festive food share.”
The charity are offering a chance to enjoy the grotto in a quieter atmosphere on Thursday, December 18 for anyone with sensory issues or those with very young children who would prefer a calmer experience.
The team added that they would be taking extra precautions to keep everyone safe and healthy this winter in light of rising numbers of flu cases.
“Due to the prevalence of flu this winter, we're going to be wearing festive facemasks” said the team. “We won't be running around together in the Victoria Hall in an attempt to protect ourselves and our Grotto guests from this year's very infectious flu bug.”
Grange Fed Up recently received a five-year salary grant from the National Lottery Fund to support their work in the community.
Formerly known as Grange-over-Sands Community Foodshare, the organisation began in 2019 with a small group of volunteers serving hot meals, and has since grown to a charity that supports more than 1,000 people each year.
Entry to the grotto will be on a Pay What You Can basis with a suggested donation of £5 per household.
