A Kendal primary school has been awarded a £150,000 capital grant to expand its early years provision.
St Mark’s Church of England Primary School received the funding as part of the School-Based Nursery Capital Grant 2025–2026.
The school says the money will be used to expand its nursery, allowing it to double its capacity.
Louise Hinton, headteacher, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to receive this funding.
"Expanding our Nursery has been a key priority since I arrived in post, and this grant allows us to turn that vision into reality.
"It’s a really exciting opportunity to help more children take their first steps in learning, while building strong, supportive connections with families in our community."
Plans involve extending the nursery into the current reception classroom.
The school says a new prefabricated building will be built on the site of the adventure playground, subject to planning approval.
Under the proposals, this will house one of the school’s Key Stage 2 classes.
The school says the growth will create new employment opportunities, with additional staff set to be recruited ahead of the expansion.
According to St Mark's, it is working towards a planned operational start date of January 2026.
