OVER a hundred members of a Christian faith group in Kendal gathered over Easter to celebrate the religious festival with an event-filled weekend.
The group, Churches Together in Kendal and District, gathered for their annual Good Friday walk through town last week.
Members then joined together again on Easter Sunday to worship at Kendal Castle.
On Good Friday, over 120 people braved the wet and windy weather to walk through town from St Thomas’s Church to Kendal Parish Church, stopping on route at Kendal marketplace, ‘the birdcage’ and Abbott Hall.
Worship at the Parish Church was then followed by warm drinks and hot cross buns to warm everybody up.
Delphine Gratrix from Churches Together Kendal and District was surprised at how many people arrived for the walk due to the weather conditions.
She said: “We had a bumper lot of people join us despite the yucky weather. It absolutely poured on us.
“It was a wonderful walk of witness and usually on a sunny day there is more people about to watch us do it.
“It’s a tradition that has been carried out in Kendal for many years.”
On Easter Sunday a smaller group of around 30 then gathered for sunrise at Kendal Castle.
Delphine said: “On Easter Sunday morning is when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ by coming together for sunrise, which, this year, was 6:30am, supposedly, but sadly the Sun didn’t quite show when it was rising.
“We could see a distant glimmer of red behind the distant hills and then the rain started and the clouds came over.”
The group sung songs and ended with prayers including a prayer for Kendal before returning to their usual churches to celebrate Easter Sunday.
