A new artist is set to join the Kirkby Lonsdale Art Society’s annual Summer Exhibition.
Taking place from Tuesday, August 4, to Saturday, August 8, the event will be held at St Mary’s Church and will showcase original paintings and drawings by members of the society.
Artists from Kirkby Lonsdale and nearby areas including Bentham, Kendal, and Windermere will take part.
A notable addition to this year’s exhibition is Vivienne Pooley, a Kirkby Lonsdale artist and past president of the Lake Artists Society at Grasmere.
Her father, Geoffrey Pooley, was the president of the Kirkby Lonsdale Art Society for many years, and was a big influence on the current president William H Jones.
Ms Pooley will display new work at the exhibition.
During the exhibition, some members will paint outdoors around the town and are happy to welcome others to join them.
The society meets weekly to paint throughout the winter months.
In summer, members often sketch and paint on location while preparing work for the annual exhibition.
Winter meetings are held on Thursdays from 7.15pm to 9.15pm in the Methodist School Room.
Members can choose from suggested themes or pursue their own projects, with support available if needed.
Sometimes there are demonstrations or workshops by art tutors and professional artists, and often people will sit for the group to draw and paint.
Kirkby Lonsdale Art Society is always open to new members, regardless of experience.
A spokesperson said: "You certainly don’t have to be an expert in art, as any member will tell you."
