A 50p coin featuring a beloved Lake District fictional character is being sold online for nearly £8,000.

The eBay seller is asking for £7,986.70 for the coin, which features a Benjamin Bunny design from the 2017 Beatrix Potter collection.

The coin was created by designer Emma Noble and shows the bunny design on the back with Queen Elizabeth II on the front.

Despite the high asking price, the Royal Mint does not consider the coin rare as there are 25 million of the same design in circulation.

Other designs within the collection include Peter Rabbit, Mr Jeremy Fisher and Tom Kitten.

The set is the second Beatrix Potter collection issued by the Royal Mint, following a five‑coin series in 2016 featuring a Beatrix Potter Anniversary design, as well as Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle‑Duck, Mrs Tiggy‑Winkle and Squirrel Nutkin.

In 2018, a further four coins entered circulation - Peter Rabbit, for the third year in a row,, Flopsy Bunny, Mrs Tittlemouse and The Tailor of Gloucester.
