Children 'as young as nine' were present as people were seen jumping off a bridge into shallow water in Cumbria.
Members of the public flagged the issue on Friday evening (July 10) with a group of 'over 20 young people' spotted at Dockray Bridge in Kendal.
PCSO Hayley Newman of South Lakes NPT attended the scene and the police have now issued a public warning to families in the county.
A spokesperson from the NPT said: "This activity is extremely hazardous, and it was concerning to see that younger children, some only nine-years-old, were present and watching these risks being taken.
"Parents, please stay informed about where your children are spending their time during the summer - it is vital to discuss personal safety with them and the importance of not being influenced by others to take part in risky behaviour.
"The goal is not to stop anyone from having fun, everyone should enjoy the outdoors and the sunshine - however, safety is the priority so please have a conversation with your children today to help ensure they stay safe while enjoying the summer."
