A new play exploring a tabloid clash between Elton John and The Sun is set to take the stage.
Monstering the Rocketman, written by Fringe First winner Henry Naylor, will be performed at Theatre by the Lake in Keswick on Friday, October 2, at 7.30pm.
The darkly comic drama revisits Britain’s largest-ever libel case, in which Elton John sued The Sun in the 1980s after the newspaper falsely accused him of paying rent boys.
The play centres on Elton John, then aged 39, and his legal battle with Sun editor Kelvin Mackenzie, who refused to back down and instead escalated his newspaper’s campaign against the singer.
The production promises a fast-paced retelling of the case, featuring everything from gangsters and punch-ups to Princess Diana and bugged phone calls.
Tickets are priced at £16, with under-26s able to attend for £12.
The show will include audio description by Anne Hornsby.
Wheelchair and other access bookings can be made through the box office or online via the theatre’s access register.
