A BURGLAR has been jailed after he stole a safe from a petrol station in south Cumbria.
Ben Porter ‘ram-raided’ the Newby Bridge petrol station on the A590 on January 19, 2024, before forcibly removing the safe, a court heard.
The 34-year-old was sentenced at Preston Crown Court by His Honour Judge Andrew Jefferies after previously pleading guilty to one offence of ‘burglary other than dwelling – theft’.
At his plea hearing, South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court heard two vehicles were involved as Porter made off from the filling station.

Prosecutor Peter Kelly said he was later found in the area and gave an account which did not match up to the reality of the situation.
“There was a degree of planning and organisation,” Mr Kelly said.
Mr Kelly added how Porter, of Peel Gardens, Colne, had a history of similar offending including two suspended sentences.
Judge Jefferies locked the defendant up for 19 months on September 9.
