Work is nearing completion on a major transformation project of a much loved Lake District building.
Grey Walls in Windermere is being converted into 17 luxury apart-hotel suites, with doors set to open in December 2026.
The project aims to blend the building’s traditional Lakeland stone exterior with modern, self-contained suites designed for both short breaks and extended stays.
Oakden is overseeing the full renovation, working closely with clients, architects, and structural engineers to deliver the final finishes.
The refurbishment includes reconfiguring internal walls and installing structural steelwork to support the new suite layouts.
Each suite will feature a kitchen, bathroom, and living space, offering guests the comfort and independence of apartment-style accommodation.
The client’s vision is to combine the historic character of Grey Walls with contemporary interiors, creating a welcoming environment that reflects its Windermere setting.
Oakden said: "That relationship between old and new will shape the experience of the building, retaining a sense of its Windermere setting while introducing the comfort and independence of apartment-style accommodation."
The project has focused on clear communication, careful planning, and attention to detail at every stage.
Oakden is delivering the full programme of renovation works through to the final finishes, preserving its Lakeland character.
