E-mails are circulating purportedly from the tax man (HMRC) asking for financial information.
One such e-mail asks for your tax and NI number and follows to a large degree the format of the HMRC website. Do not be fooled.
One way of ascertaining whether the e-mail is bogus is to hover your mouse over the “click here” link. If it is not going to take you to the HMRC website it is not real.
Also one e-mail asks for your credit card number so that you can make a payment. This is something HMRC would never do – they will only accept bank transfers or cheques.
