I thought I would give you a quick update from last week.

We managed to raise £222.58 with thanks to all who came and supported us.

The cake stall was a huge success thank goodness; I thought we were going to have a poor offering! A special Thank You to Sylvia Emmott and Kathryn Deverill. Their culinary skills and generosity contributed enormously to its success. I must say the biscuits and cakes I made with my children went well; so far nobody has come back for a refund! This week I have been very busy behind the scenes trying to contact young peoples groups and organisations to see if they would like to join the Town Councillors in the Mayors Parade.

Traditionally this was quite an event on Kendal’s annual calendar. Somewhere along the way its numbers have declined as has the public’s knowledge of it.

Many Towns call their event a civic parade and have all local bands, groups of all types young and old, joining in and celebrating the traditions and pride in their Town.

So the Town Council staff and I have been trying to contact all those groups we have invited and some we have just thought of, to try to encourage them to take part.

If your group would like to join in with the Mayors Parade on the 15th June just let us know at the Town Council office 717496. The Parade leaves the Town Hall around 10.25am and makes its way to the Parish Church returning approximately 11.30am.

Connexions has very kindly helped me organised a Tea Party in the Mayors Parlour for twelve young people, six from each secondary school.

I am hoping they will be able to help me over the coming year, If they would like to come along with me to any of the events I am invited to, I am sure they would be as amazed as I am of the wealth of activity going on in Kendal from day to day.

I will let you know how we get on.
