Not for the first time was I sat at home last night watching TV when before I knew it there was steam coming out of my ears and I was shouting “No” to my confused dog! Holby City decided to deal with Redundancy – very topical – could have been very useful as a way of showing the steps needed to get it right.

But no! Two of the management team and another consultant effectively decided who should be for the chop – told her that day, with no consultation and to add insult to injury offered her the “added incentive” of having outstanding holiday paid as part of the “package”. Oh but it were that simple. Where was the consultation, the pooling of all the people who should have been considered, the individual meetings, the dismissal meeting and the right to appeal the decision. I could of course go on – but I have had my rant. Whichever side you are on, redundancy is complicated and for the employee particularly, it is a huge thing which they often find very stressful. Always seek advice if you are at all unsure of the procedure, or if indeed a procedure is being followed!
