I was lucky enough to be among the many thousands of visitors to last weeks Westmorland County Show.

I, as many, went along armed with wellington boots in tow, (just in case) and was thrilled at the atmosphere, the buzz and shear joy of a dry day and mud free field.

I would like to congratulate the organisers for their endless enthusiasm and determination to succeed; this year’s show most certainly was a huge success, one of which they can be proud.

I was amazed at the diversity of stands, not forgetting the main purpose of the show – the animals. Our farmers are quite simply talented people and should also be praised for their hard work and devotion to their profession.

I was pleased to be invited into the Christian Focus stand and introduced to some more, very dedicated people. The various groups such as Manna House and the Salvation Army to name only two, sharing with us the important work they do, outreaching those members of our community who need help most. Please keep up the good work.

Kendal Torchlight Procession last Saturday was another super dry day, I was in Town early on in the day and there was also an air of excitement as the barriers were being put in place and the build up began.

The organisers can now take a huge sigh of relief as changing the day did not deter the crowds, thousands sharing in the carnival atmosphere, creating a real feel good factor.

The Torchlight committee and all the evenings Marshals must be congratulated for their hard work and determination; I know each year there are fewer and fewer helpers. I do hope changing the day brings forward more volunteers. It would be a crying shame to loose such a fabulous event.

Well done to all and I can’t wait for next years events.
