There is no excuse for children being bored this October half term, as lakes leisure kendal on Burton Road has a host of special children’s activities on offer.

A brand new activity for six to 11-year-olds this month is a series of Multi Sportz sessions. The sessions combine dodge ball, golf, rounders, football, uni-hoc, tag-rugby and cricket for three hours of sporting fun each day.

The sessions are taken by a fully-qualified coach and involve a mixture of sports and games. Places need to be booked in advance to ensure numbers for each day.

Multi Sportz runs for three hours: 9am-noon and costs £5 each. It is available Monday, October 27; Tuesday, October 28; and Thursday, October 30.

During the holidays there is also trampolining for ages eight to 15. Sessions take place on Tuesday, October 28, at 1pm-1.55pm and 2pm-2.55pm priced £4.50 each. Places must be booked in advance.

Seven-day activity passes for under 16s are also available for £10 each. They provide unlimited access to swimming, indoor football, badminton, squash and table tennis for the entire holiday so children can take as much time as they want enjoying the various sports on offer at the centre.

Paddles up If parents are tired of youngsters having all the fun, then this month’s new kayaking course at lakes leisure kendal is an ideal way to get the whole family together to try a new sporting activity.

With its many lakes, Cumbria is the perfect place to try out kayaking, but heading out on the open water can be a bit daunting for novices.

Thanks to lakes leisure kendal’s new family indoor kayaking sessions, you can learn the basics of this outdoor sport in a warm, safe environment on its 25m swimming pool before you head out on Windermere.

The course is aimed at beginners of any age and is taken by a fully-qualified BCU instructor. It lasts all week (Monday 10am-11am / Tuesday-Friday 9am-10am) and costs £45 per person. The course has limited places, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Gym it – Trim it Fitzone gym at lakes leisure kendal has a special offer running throughout October. The gym is fully air-conditioned with 26 stations, including exercise bikes, treadmills, cross-trainers and weights. When you join an instructor will guide you through an induction and discuss your fitness goals and objectives while setting you a programme that you can follow independently each time you visit.

The gym offers short-term packages as opposed to the big commitment of a 12-month deal. There is a variety of different options you can chose from, ranging from pay-as-you-go (£4.10 per session) right through to annual direct debit (from £324 per year). Fitzone is open daily from 7.40am-10pm with ample parking available for all users on site.

Now is the perfect time to think about getting in shape for the Christmas party season and there is no better way to do that than with a two-month package. Unlimited Gym & Swim for two months, including a free induction, fitness assessment and programme costs £70 if you sign up until the end of this month. Call the centre now on 01539-729777 to book.
