APPLEBY Golf Club’s Lady Captain Catherine Creighton has raised £820.50 for two local charities during her year in office.

Hospice at Home and Eden House children’s hospice run by Eden Valley Hospice were the lady captain’s chosen charities.

Alison Hird, of Eden House, and Dr Isabel Birch, of Hospice at Home, were invited to the club house to receive the two cheques for £410.25.

Miss Creighton said: “I chose two charities that cover all the age groups.

“There was a kind donation in lieu of 40th wedding anniversary gifts made by George and Doreen Moyinham.

“I would also like to thank Olive Ball for organising the quiz which raised £97 and to everyone who gave donations and made Lady Captains day such a great success. There was also a 20p donation box in the club house for those who didn’t hit the fairway.

“Also this year a group of members took part in the Penrith Midnight Walk for Eden Valley Hospice which raised a further £1,108.”
