FAMILY histories of the First World War were unearthed and the Great War was remembered over tea at Penrith Library.

Local studies librarian Jane Metcalfe and Judith Clarke, of Penrith and Eden Museum, brought a taste of the First World War to visitors with cake made from a Great War recipe.

Artefacts from the museum, including letters from General Kitchener, were on display, and visitors brought their own familys’ letters and items from the 1914-18 war.

Jane organised the two sessions and invited people to call in for morning or afternoon tea.

Judith said: “We have had quite a number of people come and join us for tea and tell us their family’s history and brought photographs and letters. It has been a very interesting event and highlights how every family was affected by the Great War.”
