A GROUP set up to maintain medical services at Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal is seeking new recruits in its quest to improve healthcare in the region.

NHS SOS, which is now focused on securing appropriate and accessible healthcare for local people, meets regularly to discuss potential solutions to problems such as queuing ambulances at the Lancaster Royal Infirmary, methods of improving the Langdale Unit at WGH and other health issues that affect the community.

The group recently welcomed a new chairman, Dr Colin Wilkinson, and is looking forward to a proactive 2009.

“We welcome anyone who is interested in getting involved,” said NHS SOS member, John Studholme. “This year, we are keen to show our support of plans to create a specialist cancer treatment centre at WGH.”

The next meeting takes place on Friday, February 13 at Jenkin Crag on Rydal Road in Kendal at 7pm.
