Thomas Miles, 32, from London was last seen leaving the Langdon Beck Hotel, in Forest in Teesdale, heading for Dufton, at 8.30am on Sunday.

He was walking the Pennine Way alone and had last contacted his wife at 1pm on Sunday but has not been seen or heard of since.

Mr Miles is described as white, around 175-178cm tall (5ft8) with short brown hair, medium build, with a stubble beard and wearing walking gear.

Kirkby Stephen and Teasdale Mountain Rescue teams and dogs searched paths and routes yesterday evening, and have begun their searches again this morning.

A helicopter is also being deployed from RAF Boulmer.
