A GRATEFUL community has rallied to support a popular pub manager who faces the axe as part of a proposed brewery shake-up.

Around 70 residents demonstrated at The Albion in Arnside yesterday after bosses at Thwaites Brewery drew up plans to change the way many of its pubs are run.

The move could see a tenant replace The Albion’s manager John Gallagher, who each year raises thousands of pounds for community causes.

Sarabeth Pearce, who is co-ordinating the campaign to save Mr Gallagher’s job, said: “John has done so much for the community over the years, it is now time the community did something to help him."
