TRAVELLERS occupying a shore-side car park in Bolton-le-Sands cannot be moved on because it costs too much money.
Parish Councillors say the £2,500 it costs to forcibly evict their caravans from the Shore Lane car park via a court order would be better spent on play equipment.
Lancashire Constabulary said they could only move the travellers on if the Parish Council had had exhausted its powers – including court action.
Even then, the police would only become involved if there were more than six caravans on the site (there are currently only three) or if an offence had been committed.
Lancaster City Council said they would work with the parish council should legal proceedings be necessary. It is unclear whether this would include financial support to obtain a court eviction order.
