A mother from Chester has been named the North West’s ‘Mum of the Year’ following a nationwide survey by parenting website Netmums.

Aimee Holme was nominated for her work with local teenagers, helping to empower them to make decisions about relationships and parenthood and accept their responsibilities.

Mum of the Year nominations were made as part of a survey to find out how much of their free time mums give up to help others.

The survey, run by Netmums and family holiday specialist siblu, reveals that on average mums spend almost 17 hours every month supporting friends, family and their community including helping in schools (67%), helping the elderly (27%), running local baby, toddler and church groups (30%) or fundraising (46%). Aimee was chosen as Mum of the Year for the North West by a panel of judges who praised her as a young mum using her own experiences as the driving force to help others.

Aimee has designed and developed a number of workshops and activities to use with local teenagers to recognise what is healthy and unhealthy in relationships. They examine feelings and encourage teens to positively express themselves in certain situations, and look at the realities of parenthood for young people.

Siobhan Freegard, founder of Netmums says: “Aimee epitomises the spirit of modern mums who are the hidden foundations of our lives, doing hours of unpaid work to help family, friends and local groups.

“Many mums are the driving force behind activities and groups that are appreciated by their entire community. It is this sprit of support that our Mum of the Year award is celebrating.”

As Mum of the Year for the North West, Aimee wins a seven-night family holiday to France from siblu, sponsors of Mum of the Year. Aimee is also shortlisted for the national Mum of the Year award, which will be decided by a nationwide vote.
