THE adventures of an Eden couple who walked from Land’s End to John O’ Groats have been put down in black and white and preserved for posterity.

Ken and Kathy Trimmer took a long winter walk in aid of children’s charity The Rainbow Trust, raising £13,570 in the process.

The couple, who run a walking holiday company from their home in Boar Fell in the Upper Eden Valley, set off on October 22 and finally rolled into John O’ Groats on December 3.

Mrs Trimmer’s book A Journey of Soles – Land’s End to John O’ Groats, Hayloft Publishing, £9.50 – is a carefully recorded account of their journey across Britain on foot.

From cycle tracks to canal paths the couple encountered all kinds of weather and plenty of characters along the way and many of them make guest appearances in her book.

Photographs, maps and even cartoons are scattered throughout the text, bringing the journey to life.

Mrs Trimmer said: “The generosity of the hospitality we received on our journey was incredible. We stayed with 20 different friends…We carried the bucket for the whole journey and almost every day someone put something into it.”
