The Government have today unveiled a new "Fit Note" which will replace the current medical sick note.

For many years employers have complained about the rigidness of sicknotes. On many occasions it has been obvious that whilst an employee may not be able to do certain things, they are perfectly capable of doing others.

The new fit note should give doctors the scope to be able to say what employees can do rather than the old black and white approach of "you either can work or you can't".

There will be a 12 week consultation on it's design and should come into use in Spring 2010.
