ANTIQUE enthusiasts will be battling it out in Kirkby Lonsdale next month when a collection of European swords and daggers goes under the hammer.
The impressive collection, which dates back to the early 17th century, is one of the star lots at the James Thompson Fine Art Auctioneers midsummer sale.
Company director, James Thompson, said the individual swords have been given pre-sale estimates of between £250 and £1,500, adding: “Collections of this size only arise a few times a year and we anticipate a great deal of interest.”
Furniture fans will also be spoilt for choice at the sale, with a 19th century walnut writing bureau and an 18th century Lancashire chest just some of the intriguing items on offer.
“We expect a lively auction and a good turnout,” said Mr Thompson. “We find we usually get at least 500 people through the doors during the two-day sale.”
The auction takes place at the James Thompson sales room on Main Street on August 5 and 6, with a public viewing being held on August 4.
