All too often it's easy to get carried away with design of your website without considering a crucial factor, who is your website for? You or your users? What is your websites purpose?

This is the main factor, who is the site for, what you intend to achieve through the site for example, if the site is to attract new customers then you must 1st research your target audience, the geography and demographics of these people, there is simply no point designing a website with flash images and bright colours etc if you are trying to target an older audience. Getting carried away with design of the site and what can be done is all too easy to do but you must always remember your audience, you have no need for it to please your eyes, make sure it's what your customers want to see.

Secondly, what is the aim of the site? Are you trying to get more enquiries or sell more goods on-line? Make sure the information is available to the user, for more enquiries etc make sure your contact details are visible on every page and on the footer, perhaps have a box for users to fill in for more info on every page as a fast option for them.

More sales requires info within 3 clicks, if your customer is having to delve and search for items on your site chances are after a few clicks they'll go else where which proves to be an easier experience for them.

So this week 2 points to consider: 1) Don't get carried away with design - Research your target audience and design your site with your audience in mind.

2) Make the user experience a memorable one, make sure everything your user could possibly require is no more than 3 clicks away.
