FURIOUS villagers are calling on a bus company to reverse a decision to re-route a service from the heart of their community.

Residents of Bolton-le-Sands want Stagecoach to return its 55/55A bus to Main Street, rather than send it down the A6.

Jane Rusco, village sub-postmistress, said: “A lot of the people are elderly in the village and cannot get out without the bus.

“There are very strong feelings about this in the village. We have been treated as a poor relation. We are next to a city but we can’t get out of the village,” she said.

Keith Budden, who represents the village at Lancaster City Council, said it would affect businesses in the village.

“Most of the amenities are on Main Road so by-passing this is going to hit their trade,” he said.

A Stagecoach spokesman said: “It wasn’t a decision the company has taken lightly but due to the problems of parked cars along Main Road, which resulted in the service getting delayed, or minor accidents caused by trying to get through narrow gaps, it was decided to move the service down the A6.”
