A LITTLE bit of elbow grease went a long way on a Kendal estate when local people banded together for a community litter pick.
Waterside residents of all ages took part in the clean up, which was co-ordinated by the Waterside Respect Task Group (WRTG).
“It went really well and it was nice to see all the local people working together to look after their estate,” said Coun Chris Hogg, chair of WRTG. “There were also lots of children taking part, which was really encouraging.”
Also lending a hand on the day were staff from South Lake District Council, who provided two small sweepers and gave advice on environmental issues such as dog fouling, and South Lakes Housing, who provided a free skip for household rubbish and refreshments for those taking part.
“You could really see the difference when we finished,” said Mr Hogg.
“This is the second time we have had a litter pick and it was great to see that things were not as bad as the first time we came to do it.”
