POLICE will carry out a ‘street safe operation’ in Kendal on Thursday (December 10) following a number of burglaries in the area.

Teams of officers will visit around 150 homes in the High Fellside area, between 5pm and 7pm, to offer reassurance, crime prevention advice and to discuss issues of local concern.

The scheme is part of South Lakeland District Council’s crime and disorder reduction partnership.

Detective Inspector Mike Forrester said: “Burglary is a crime that affects people in many different ways. It’s a personal violation of somebody’s property which can affect them for years.

“We must all work together to reduce the number of burglaries committed. People should look out for their neighbours and should report suspicious activities to police.

“People should increase security to ensure their homes and garages are secure at all times. More than half of all reported burglaries are as a result of insecurities. This is a community issue that requires community involvement and support.”
