CUMBRIA County Council has been praised for its social care facilities.

The Care Quality Commission gave the council a three point rating during a recent inspection following marked improvements in adult social care delivery since 2005.

The Commission stated that CCC is “consistently delivering above the minimum requirements for people, is cost-effective and makes contributions to wider outcomes for the community.”

CCC was rated “excellent” in the Making a Positive Contribution outcome and was judged to be “performing well” in all six of the other categories.

Coun Eddie Martin, CCC cabinet member for adult social care said: “The population of Cumbria is changing so that more and more older people are living in the country and requiring support to live independently.

“This latest rating is proof that we are adapting the way we work to not only to cope with these pressures but also to deliver better services than ever before.”
