Wetheriggs United retained the First Division championship of the Talbot Insurance Westmorland League when they won 3-0 at long-time leaders Coniston in Saturday's title decider. Coniston's defeat left Kendal County to finish runners-up with Coniston who were pipped for the title at the post last season third. Lunesdale United and Victoria SC are relegated, while Penrith Rangers and Ibis are promoted from Division 2.
Appleby still have a big match ahead when they are set to meet champions Wetheriggs in the final of the High Sheriff's Cup the Division 1 knockout competition at Penrith tomorrow (Thursday), the kick-off is at 6.45pm.
