THE ARTISTIC talents of fellside primary school pupils was rewarded with a musical treat from Cumbria County Council's schools inspector/adviser Avril Greenhow Parker.

Ms Greenhow Parker had been invited by Milburn Primary School to perform the official unveiling of the pupils' fresco, entitled Renaissance, which had been inspired by Michelangelo's Creation of Adam. But their guest was so impressed by the artwork on show that she wanted to "give them something back" and performed a jazz piece on piano with sax player Stuart Johnson.

Pupils at the village school have worked on their interpretation of the work for two terms, mastering making egg tempera using powder paints and natural pigments from fruit, as well as learning how to paint skin and hair by laying down layers of colour and tone whil listening to modern Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi.

Ms Greenhow Parker told parents and guests at the unveiling how impressed she was with the high standard of art and music work at the school, which has 24 pupils.

Art co-ordinator at Milburn Primary Diane Steadman said: "The children have been so enthusiastic about this project and progressed so much during it that I wanted to share their hard work and talent with the wider community of Milburn and their family and friends."
