MORECAMBE boss Jim Harvey has added extra firepower to his front line with the signing of six-foot striker Sean O'Connor.

The big front man comes to the Shrimps from a two-year stint at Queen of the South in Scottish League Division One.

Born in Wolverhampton, the 23-year-old was a target for Harvey last year but could not be lured away from Palmerston Park, where he had a great start to last season with seven goals in 10 games before picking up an injury.

When he won his place back in the first team just after Christmas he was again injured in a match against St Johnstone.

O'Connor started his football career at hednesford Town before being spotted and signed by Dundee United in 1999. He was snapped up by Queens in March 2002 for £10,000.

His signing for Morecambe is still subject to a medical and international clearance.

Harvey has also won the signature of Morecambe Academy graduate Michael Stringfellow on a new two-year deal at Christie Park this week.

The 22-year-old midfielder was a fixture in the Morecambe line-up until he was hit by injury and loss of form last season, struggling to win back his regular place alongside Stewart Drummond.

O'Connor is the fifth signing of the summer as Harvey reshapes his squad for a new tilt at promotion to the Football League - joining goal-keeper Adam Sollitt, defender Carl Ruffer and midfielders Jimmy Kelly and Michael Twiss at Morecambe.
