MORE than 90 cars turned out for the North West open team championship at War-ton Raceway on Sunday with the £1,000 top prize going to the Invader team from Liverpool.

But it was not an easy track to victory, with 13 other teams chasing the big prize.

The wreck of the day came when the car of Kevin Chadwick was crushed into the wall by Jonathan Atkinson of Team V, who won the hit of the day' prize for it.

The bravest driver of the day was Wartononline.com man Martin Vickers, making his driving debut on the oval circuit.

The Steele Removals team, sponsors of the event from Kendal, had a hard day even though Dan Steele won the first heat.

A track spokesperson says: "All in all, along with the glorious weather, this is yet more proof, if it were needed, that Warton Stock Car Club is the premier North West short oval track."
