A SOUTH Lakeland hotel has scooped a prize at a prestigious London award ceremony.

The owners of Grasmere’s Rothay Garden Hotel have picked up the ‘Excellence through People’ training and development award at the 2010 HRS Hotel Excellence Awards.

The award recognises the hotel’s investment in developing its employee’s skills while it was undergoing a £2.3 million redevelopment to transform it into a 4 star establishment.

Chris Carss, owner of the Rothay Garden Hotel, said “I’m especially pleased to win this award, as it is an important recognition of the extra training and development opportunities which all the staff took advantage of during our redevelopment period.

“It also goes a long way to re-inforce our award of four stars from the AA, and shows that even in this age of technology, it is good people skills which are at the foundation of the hospitality industry”.
