VANDAL attacks on two telephone boxes in Grasmere have left villagers scratching their heads in puzzlement.
A gang – appearing to call itself ‘The Imps’ – completely obscured the kiosks in newsprint and brown paper.
Local resident Bev Dennison, who took photographs of the vandalised telephone box in Broadgate, said: “It was covered in glue and wallpapered with newspaper, tied up with a roll of cling film.
“I have no idea who did it, nor do the police who were informed at the time.
“Another telephone box on Stock Lane car park was wrapped in brown wrapping paper and tied up with a fancy bow.
"One visitor I spoke to said the mobile phone they had did not work in Grasmere and they had not been able to use the box to keep in touch with her mother who was unwell.”
She added: “A light-hearted joke it may have been, but someone has to clean it up afterwards.”
