AN INTERNET innovation which reveals how Cumbria Police is performing can be viewed by the public from today (Thursday).

The new ‘report card’ system has been introduced by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) to provide a simple way for people to find out the results of annual inspections.

Chief Constable Craig Mackey said: “The constabulary has undertaken a significant investment in the last five years and this long-term progress, coupled with good detection rates, is now being rewarded with less crime across the county.

“We are now in a good position, as our report card demonstrates, and this reflects all the hard work by staff, officers and communities to ensure that Cumbria remains one of the safest places in the UK.”

Roger Baker, HMIC inspector for Cumbria, said: “Cumbria Constabulary continues to see success in its performance, with crime rates that are generally lower than in the constabulary’s peer forces and that continue to fall.”
