Highlights Rural Touring Scheme continues its current season in the Eden Valley with Fireside Tales for Christmas from Taffy Thomas and friends who are appearing at Orton Market Hall on Sunday 11 December at 7.30pm.

Before Playstations, TV or radio, Christmas was more like this with spellbinding stories, songs, music and riddles for all the family evoking the traditions of Christmas past.

Taffy Thomas is one of the region's best loved storytellers and he will be telling tales including The Gingerbread Man and The Apple Tree Man (a re-interpretation of the story of Christmas), accompanied by beautiful singing and the music of fiddle and Border pipes.

"We're promised stories for all ages and a programme that should be enthralling for all the family," says Orton's Highlights promoter, Sally Seed. Tickets (£5 adult, £3.50 concession and £12 family) and further information are available from Orton Village Post Office or from Sally on 01539 624732.

The Orton event is one of several performances in the North of England under the Highlights Rural Touring banner. Taffy Thomas and friends are also performing at Arnside Educational Institute on Saturday 10 December (call 01524 762254 for details).
