D.LAYCOCK of Heysham wrote in the Citizen that the Lancaster Pride week has no relevance' to her. She misses the point.
As a council tax payer, there are also many things that I pay for that are of no benefit or relevance to me but I do not begrudge those who benefit - for example council housing.
Is the writer suggesting that every council tax payer only pays for things that directly have relevance to them?
I am delighted that Lancaster City Council is supporting the Pride Festival for lesbians, gay men and the transgender community (who do, by the way, paytheir own council tax.
Of course if we lived in a society free from prejudice these events might not be necessary in the first place.
