THE first weekend under new licensing laws, which allow 24hour drinking, passed with no more incidents than usual according to Cumbria Police.
The new legislation means that pubs, clubs, and supermarkets can sell alcohol over an extended time and had triggered fears that it will put hospitals and the police under more pressure.
Cumbria Police has said that the first test for the new laws would be the weekend, November 26 to November 27.
But Harry Macdonald, a spokesman for the force said that number of drink related incidents reported over the weekend had "hardly" changed from before the licensing laws were enforced.
"It was a cold weekend so perhaps not many people went out but we are monitoring the situation," he said.
