EVEREST conqueror Sir Chris Bonington has given business leaders a lesson in how to reach the top.

Business from Lancaster and Cumbria were well treated to a special motivational masterclass by the mountaineer at Lancaster University Management School.

During the presentation the climber, who is also the Chancellor of the university, described his experiences in leading a successful expedition up the South West face of Everest.

He also looked at the key issues he faced on the trip like planning, team selection and leadership.

The seminar was part of a programme called LEAD' designed to drive the development and growth of businesses in the region.

"It was a fascinating seminar, thought-provoking and wonderfully delivered and it made a significant impact on the business leaders," says programme director Sue Peters.

"The seminar highlighted some practical points that all businesses have to consider getting the right people in place and tackling difficult leadership issues."

Aimed at businesses with between four and 20 employees, the package of coaching is worth some £15,000 but is available free to local businesses thanks to funding from the North West Development Agency and Business Link.
