BANDS in Kendal usually come in two different categories.

First, the same old bands that change their names every so often, so you think they are a new, exciting covers band. Secondly, bands that record their own material, and try to make something of themselves.

Ex-Kendal residents British Sea Power have just done a tour with NME darlings Interpol. Meanwhile, Hush have locked themselves in a recording studio and come out with a CD of old school rock 'n roll tunes.

For the second year running, The Brewery was the place to be last weekend. The launch for Hush's second LP, Get On With It, a package of their own self-penned tunes, was jam-packed full of eager music fans.

Hush burst on to the undersized stage and played a pretty tight set, opening with the fantastic Foo Fighters' All My Life.

Frontman, Fergus Wade, sporting a pair of leather pants and spiky blond hair, looked the part of a rocker. While guitarist Roger Cairns wooed everyone with his electric riffs.

Dr Rock and What Do You Want, their own written melodies, fitted well with Audioslave and Queens Of The Stone Age covers.

Tog Rated Heaven, another of Hush's own, began like The Who classic, Baba O' Riley, and turned into a big Motley Crew singalong. The acoustic interlude gave ears the chance to hear a calmer, gentle sound to Hush, with the ballad, Strangest Feeling and Kick In The Head.

From classic bands like Queen and Led Zeppelin, to modern day metal, like The Foo Fighters and Feeder, the Kendal lads know their stuff and you can hear it all over Get On With It. So go on, take the band's advice, get on with it and get the LP now. CA.
